The concept of "moral status" has been presented with various criteria and standards, and some philosophers have emphasized that possessing rationality, general understanding, awareness, and particularly self-awareness are prerequisites for having "moral status," thus assigning inherent value and "moral status" exclusively to humans. In contrast to this perspective, Peter Singer, a contemporary utilitarian philosopher, criticizes the anthropocentric view and challenges traditional views on the criterion of moral status, introducing "pain and suffering" as a valid and precise criterion for "moral status" through an innovative and critical approach. This article briefly mentions the main perspectives on "moral status," presents Peter Singer's new and controversial criterion regarding the moral status of animals, and evaluates and critiques his assumptions and claims in this regard. It is evident that accepting Singer's proposed criterion and acknowledging the "moral status of animals" leads to a reconsideration of the relationship between humans and animals, refraining from instrumentalism, and striving to end the cycle of unnecessary suffering and cruelty towards animals, which becomes an ethical obligation. بررسی و تبیین «شأن اخلاقی حیوان»، یکی از مباحث مهم و چالش‌بر‌انگیز در حوزه اخلاق کاربردی است که به واسطه آثار و اثرگذاری مستقیم آن در زیست و زندگی بشری، اهمیتی ویژه دارد. در باب «شأن اخلاقی/ moral status» معیارها و ملاک‌های مختلف و متفاوتی ارائه شده و برخی فیلسوفان، با تأکید بر این نکته که برخورداری از قوّه عاقله، درک کلیات و آگاهی و به طور خاص، خودآگاهی، مقدمه و شرط برخورداری از «شأن اخلاقی» است، تنها برای انسانها ارزش ذاتی و «شأن اخلاقی» قائل شده‌اند. در تقابل با این نظریه و نوع نگاه، پیتر سینگر - فیلسوف فایده‌گرای معاصر- ضمن نقد و طرد نگرشِ انسان‌محورانه، دیدگاه‌های سنّتی در باب معیار شأن اخلاقی، را به چالش کشیده و با نگاهی ابداعی و انتقادی، «احساس درد و رنج» را به عنوان معیار درست و دقیق «شأن اخلاقی» معرفی کرده است. در این مقاله پس از اشاره‌ای گذرا به اهم دیدگاه‌ها در باب «شأن اخلاقی»،‌ معیار جدید و جنجال‌برانگیز پیتر سینگر در باب شأن اخلاقی حیوان، طرح و تبیین شده و ضمن تحلیل پیش‌فرض‌ها و ادعاهای سینگر، رویکرد و مدعیات او در این زمینه ارزیابی و نقد شده است. پوشیده نیست که پذیرش معیار پیشنهادی پیتر سینگر و قبول «شأن اخلاقی حیوانات»، تجدید‌نظر در رابطه «انسان با حیوان»، پرهیز از ابزارانگاری و تلاش برای پایان بخشیدن به چرخه زجر و ظلم غیر‌ضروری به حیوانات را به وظیفه‌ای اخلاقی بدل می‌سازد. https://akhlagh.morsalat.ir/article_76118_3b23061906757dfd467dd2e49b9eb717.pdf
