Abstract

Gratitude to God is a fundamental teaching of the Quran and Hadith, playing a
central role in shaping the believer’s life. The common perception is that
gratitude is limited to thanking God for material and spiritual blessings,
whereas religious texts depict a far broader scope. Using a
descriptive-analytical method, this study sought to identify the applications of
gratitude to God in the believer's life from the perspective of the Quran and
Hadith, and to examine their impact on a faith-based lifestyle. The findings
indicate that gratitude to God applies to four distinct domains: first,
gratitude for divine blessings (manifest and hidden, material and spiritual),
leading to increased blessings, existential elevation, life satisfaction, and
moral humility; second, gratitude for the loss of blessings (adversities),
including the death of loved ones, illness, and poverty, which fosters
resilience, contentment with the divine decree, spiritual purification, and
inner richness; third, gratitude for the prevention and removal of hardships,
which strengthens faith, trust, hope, psychological peace, and piety; and
fourth, gratitude for the grace to perform divine duties (devotional and
financial), which prevents self-conceit, transforms duty-based obedience into
love-based devotion, purifies the soul, and expands sustenance. Consequently,
gratitude serves as an active, dynamic system that organizes all dimensions of a
believer's life, guiding them toward divine pleasure and spiritual elevation in
all circumstances
